On Ethnohistory

It all begins with an idea.

The term Ethnohistory commonly refers to those analyses and interpretations that seek to make evident the experiences, organizations, and identities of indigenous, diasporic, and minority peoples in the Americas that otherwise elude the histories and anthropologies of nations, states, and colonial empires. Such terminology indicates that History is for Western cultures and Native Americans are left with Ethnohistory or an ethnic version of History. A generation of scholars, many of whom are interested in using digital tools for ethnohistorical aims, must work within the current framework. How can a podcast work to challenge the framework while also attempting to maintain visibility? As the creator, content researcher, audio editor, and director of the New Work in Ethnohistory podcast, my digital work faces such questions. I continue explore decolonizing strategies for digital platforms keeping in mind the necessity of keywords for search engine results.
